Residents in eastern Tehran reported hearing a powerful explosion around 8:30 PM local time on Tuesday, followed by sounds resembling anti-aircraft fire for approximately five minutes, according to the Tasnim news agency. Eyewitnesses also observed smoke in the sky. The causes of the incident remain unknown, and initial reports of air defense activity, gunfire, or fireworks have not been confirmed.

Iranian media, citing government sources, claimed a drone, possibly belonging to American or Israeli intelligence, was shot down near the city of Yazd in the central part of the country.

In response to the events, Iranian authorities announced the suspension of all school classes nationwide. Additionally, police stations and important military facilities in certain areas, primarily in the south, were ordered to be evacuated.

This comes amid reports that senior U.S. military officials informed IDF Chief of Staff Eyal Zamir that the White House and Pentagon have tasked them with preparing a large-scale military operation against Iran within the next three weeks. U.S. assessments suggest Tehran might retaliate with a massive missile strike against Israel.

Furthermore, U.S. President Donald Trump has asserted that Iran could acquire nuclear weapons within weeks and use them against other countries, potentially targeting Israel for destruction first, followed by European nations and the U.S.
