The Central Court in Lod has sentenced three family members to prison for their involvement in the stabbing death of the victim in 2023. The victim was stabbed in front of her two young children while she was heavily pregnant. The court imposed a 22-year sentence on her paternal half-brother, who was about 14 and a half years old at the time of the crime. Her cousin received a 17-year sentence, having been about 15 and a half years old when the murder occurred. Both were convicted of aggravated joint murder and other offenses. In a separate but related case, Aya's father was sentenced to 15 years for aiding and abetting the murder and other crimes. The convicted individuals were also ordered to pay over 300,000 shekels in compensation to Aya's children.

The murder stemmed from a family dispute after Aya refused to return to live with her father and his family in Hura. According to the indictment, the two minors, masked and armed with a knife, went to Aya's home at night and waited. The following morning, as Aya left for kindergarten with her four and five-year-old children, her brother emerged from a vehicle and stabbed her approximately 20 times, continuing even after she fell and attempted to defend herself. Medical teams were unable to save Aya or her unborn child.

Prosecutors Sharon Mashal and Eliran Ashkenazi stated that the sentences mark the end of the legal proceedings against those responsible. They noted that Aya's mother, sisters, and other family members testified despite fears and difficulties. The prosecutors expressed hope that the conclusion of the judicial process will help the family begin to heal, acknowledging that the sentences cannot bring Aya back. Lycol Temsut, representing Aya's family through legal aid, added that the end of the criminal proceedings will allow the family to focus on caring for the orphaned children and helping them overcome their trauma.
