The spiritual leader of the Shas party, Rabbi Yitzhak Yosef, launched a sharp attack on Minister Itamar Ben-Gvir on Wednesday evening, holding him responsible for the arrest of draft-dodging yeshiva students. Rabbi Yosef claimed the arrests were intended to incite unrest among yeshiva students against Shas, thereby encouraging them to vote for Ben-Gvir.

These remarks were made during an event marking the dedication of a Torah scroll at the home of Baruch Deri, Rabbi Yosef's son-in-law. The documentation was published by News 13 correspondent Michael Shemesh.

"To vote for such a person? Woe is us!" Rabbi Yosef began. "Now they are arresting yeshiva students. Who is to blame for this? Do you think Mrs. Miara is to blame for this? Itamar Ben-Gvir, he is to blame for all these arrests!"

Rabbi Yosef asserted that a political calculation was behind the actions. "He wants there to be unrest among the yeshiva students, for them to be angry at Shas, and to vote for him," he stated. "My friends, this must be published that he is responsible for everything. He is the Minister of Police. If he were not, there would not be all these arrests. Let him not shift the blame to others. When he wanted some matter of 50 million, he knew how to threaten Netanyahu…"

Rabbi Yosef concluded by questioning the wisdom of voting for such an individual.
