President Isaac Herzog delivered remarks Wednesday at the annual memorial ceremony for victims of the October 7th music festival massacre, held at the Re'im site. "The calendar insists on testifying that October has arrived again, for the third time," Herzog began, reflecting on the "jarring contradiction between the time-frozen experience of grief and the stubborn movement of life." He acknowledged the daily struggle of survivors "in their heroic battle for their health and their souls."

Standing at the "terrible place where a dance turned into a lament," Herzog spoke of the "beautiful, free children who danced" and how "even after three years, it is still hard to grasp how they were taken from us with wickedness and barbarity, their radiant, good, beloved faces, and the strong life force they possessed." He addressed the families of the victims, stating, "You, daughters and sons of families, loved ones, dear friends, who have lost your closest, most beloved, no one can stand where you stand." He recognized their "strength of spirit, nobility, and courage" as "astonishing."

Herzog emphasized that "alongside the burning love and unbearable, painful longing, you stand here with erect posture, inspiring respect and awe." He pledged solidarity, saying, "We stand with you, in the place where cruelty and love, dance and death, light and darkness met with impossible intensity, we will embrace, we will cry, we will miss together, and we will pray that the promise of spirit and timely rain will still grace our soil... and that you will find comfort and healing."

He thanked those involved in developing and preserving the site and fostering the "unique community partnership born from bereavement." He also expressed gratitude to those working to memorialize the "destruction that occurred here" and to disseminate the stories of the Nova music festival attendees and other communities, "the stories of horror, evil, and heroism." Herzog concluded by extending a hand to those seeking solace and "insisting on returning to dance," urging, "Let us not forget the lives lost here, let us not forget the lives that survived here."
