In September, a record 1.23 million Israelis traveled abroad, the highest number ever recorded for that month. This represents a nearly 17% increase compared to September of the previous year, when 1.05 million Israelis traveled internationally. The surge is largely attributed to the fact that all the High Holidays, including Rosh Hashanah and Yom Kippur, fell within September this year, significantly boosting travel figures.

According to data released by the Central Bureau of Statistics, air travel accounted for the vast majority of these departures, with approximately 1.1 million trips taken by air, representing 89% of the total. Land crossings saw 119,000 departures, while sea travel accounted for 11,800.

From the beginning of the year through the end of September, a total of 7.31 million Israeli departures abroad were recorded. This figure is higher than the 7.11 million recorded during the same period in the previous year. Air travel continues to dominate, with 6.27 million departures by air year-to-date, followed by 977,600 by land and 60,500 by sea.

Analysis of air travel trends shows a notable increase in recent months. Between July and September, an average of 855,400 Israeli departures abroad by air were recorded monthly, a significant rise from the 540,100 average per month in the preceding three months. This indicates an accelerating trend, with an average monthly increase of 6% in air travel over the last three months, compared to a 1.8% monthly increase in the prior period.

It is important to note that these figures include Israelis residing abroad who returned to Israel for visits. In September, 53,100 departures, or 4.3% of the total, were by Israelis living abroad visiting their homeland.
