Thousands of visitors, including bereaved families and survivors, gathered at the Nova music festival site near Kibbutz Re'im to commemorate the third anniversary of the October 7 massacre. The site, now a memorial, was filled with people walking among the images of the murdered and memorial projects.

On October 7, Hamas terrorists attacked the festival, which was attended by approximately 3,500 people, including 400 staff, 31 armed police officers, and 75 unarmed security guards. The decision to disperse the event with the onset of rocket fire was credited with saving thousands of lives. However, many fleeing attendees encountered terrorists who had infiltrated Israel and set up ambushes along Route 232 and at intersections.

By around 8:30 AM, terrorists had overcome police and security forces at a northern roadblock, gaining control of part of Route 232. About an hour later, they reached the festival grounds themselves. The main massacre within the Nova site occurred between 9:15 AM and 10:10 AM, during which approximately 200 people remained, including the wounded, staff, and police. Around 171 Israelis were killed within the site itself.

A small force of fighters, dispatched from Judea and Samaria and led by the commander of the Shaked Battalion of the Givati Brigade, along with two members of the Matzada unit, arrived at the site around 11:30 AM. They engaged the terrorists, provided aid to the wounded, and evacuated survivors. The area was cleared of terrorists by 3:00 PM.

Today, the former festival grounds serve as an extensive memorial, with images of the victims and remembrance projects established by their families and friends. Visitors on the anniversary came to the site to walk through the memorial projects and reflect on the memory of those killed at the festival and on the escape routes.
