The Palestinian Ministry of Education and Higher Education announced on Wednesday that over 19,189 students in Gaza's schools and 1,386 university students have been killed since the start of the war on October 7, 2023. The ministry also reported that 28,586 students in Gaza's schools and 3,082 university students sustained injuries. In the West Bank, 134 school students and 39 university students were killed, with 871 school students and 283 university students injured. Additionally, 416 school students and 481 university students were arrested in the West Bank.

The ministry also detailed casualties among education sector staff, stating that 805 school staff and 246 university lecturers and employees were killed in Gaza. In the West Bank, 7 school staff were killed and 26 injured, while Israeli forces arrested over 176 school teachers and staff, along with 21 university employees.

Regarding the destruction of educational institutions, the ministry reported that Israeli forces completely destroyed over 179 government schools and bombed and destroyed more than 105 UNRWA schools in Gaza. Over 63 university buildings in Gaza were also completely destroyed. Despite this, the ministry affirmed the continuation of the educational process, establishing 700 educational points and 12 virtual schools for Gaza students.

In the West Bank, the ministry noted continued targeting of educational institutions, including a final demolition order for the Janba school in Masafer Yatta, south of Hebron. Israeli forces also closed four schools in Hebron's Old City for several days and denied permits for teachers in East Jerusalem, hindering their access to work. The ministry highlighted ongoing incursions into Palestinian universities, most recently at Birzeit University, as part of a continued effort to target the educational process in both Gaza and the West Bank.
