Mapal Adam, who was killed at the Nova music festival on October 7, 2023, is remembered by her sister, television presenter Mayaan Adam, as a vibrant individual with a bright future. Mapal, who grew up in Nahariya and Haifa, was the youngest child in her family and served as an officer in the Artillery Corps, even participating in the establishment of the Multidimensional Unit (Ghost). She received a presidential commendation on Israel's 70th Independence Day and was promoted to captain at age 22. After her military service, Mapal moved to Tel Aviv, worked in education and hospitality, and dreamed of opening an alternative school. She was in a happy relationship with Roee, and the couple had recently moved in together.

Mapal was celebrating at the Nova festival near Kibbutz Re'im with Roee and her friend Hili Solomon when the Hamas attack began. The three attempted to flee, eventually hiding under a truck for hours before Hamas terrorists executed them at close range. Mapal was 26 years old and was buried in the military cemetery in Kiryat Shaul. Roee was severely wounded but survived.

The aftermath brought further tragedy. Roee struggled with severe post-traumatic stress disorder following Mapal's death. In October 2025, on the anniversary of Mapal's death, Roee died by suicide at the age of 30, unable to bear the grief and trauma, and was buried alongside his memories of Mapal. His mother, Raphaela, had also passed away from grief.

Mayaan Adam is now seeking justice and meaning amidst the profound loss. She posted on Instagram expressing her frustration with the lack of investigation and accountability three years after the massacre. "It's nice to hug and pleasant to receive an emoji heart but it doesn't help. To truly share in sorrow is to share in what is most sorrowful. Three years without an investigation, without culprits. Our daughter is dead and the government just wants to continue with life," she wrote. Adam criticized the government, stating that continued inaction would be interpreted as a sign that "for the people of Israel, everything happened for the best." She pleaded with the public to consider the implications of their votes, emphasizing that it would deny her mother closure and dishonor Mapal's memory.
