Israeli fintech company Capitolis announced on Tuesday it has raised $220 million in a funding round that values the company at $1.9 billion. The round included a $120 million Series E equity financing, led by existing investor Citi, with participation from new strategic investors Bank of America, Nomura, and Tradeweb Markets. Existing investors UBS, Barclays, BNP Paribas, J.P. Morgan, and State Street also participated.

In addition to the equity, Capitolis secured debt financing from First Citizens Innovation Banking, Hercules Capital, and Pinegrove Venture Partner. Capitolis develops a platform designed to enhance efficiency for banks and financial institutions through synergy and collaboration in the markets.

The new funding will support Capitolis's recent acquisition of eSecLending, which was announced last week. This acquisition is expected to add securities lending capabilities to Capitolis's platform, expand its access to institutional asset owners, and strengthen its infrastructure for developing innovative financial solutions.

"We are pleased to lead this funding round, which brings together a group of strategic investors supporting Capitolis's next stage of growth," said Cyrus Sing, a senior official in Citi's investment division. "This transaction reflects our continued focus on targeted investments in companies shaping the infrastructure and development of global capital markets."

Capitolis Founder and CEO Gil Mandelzis stated, "This funding round is a significant milestone for Capitolis and a strong vote of confidence in our vision and our ability to execute it." He added that the company is experiencing very high growth and that the support from major global banks as investors is a testament to Capitolis becoming a significant strategic partner for them. The funds will aid in completing the eSecLending acquisition and facilitate further expansion to meet evolving client needs.
