Brett McGurk, a former Biden administration envoy to the Middle East, stated that neither the United States nor Israel had received advance warning of the October 7th Hamas attack. In an interview with i24NEWS, McGurk asserted, "We didn't have a warning, and the Israelis didn't have a warning of what they told us." He added that a retrospective review of intelligence data available before the attack revealed no indications of the impending assault.

McGurk's comments come amid recent reports suggesting that regional actors had conveyed alarming messages to Israel prior to the massacre. The Wall Street Journal reported that then-Egyptian intelligence chief Abbas Kamel had delivered warnings to Prime Minister Netanyahu. Simultaneously, Haaretz reported that UAE President Mohamed bin Zayed had allegedly cautioned Netanyahu about a significant Hamas move.

The Prime Minister's Office has vehemently denied these claims. Netanyahu stated that he did not speak with or meet Kamel in the months preceding October 7th and received no such warning, pointing to an official Egyptian denial issued after the attack. An official UAE source also refuted the allegation that bin Zayed had warned Netanyahu, a report also denied by the Prime Minister's Office.
