  • Israel witnessed a spectacular sunset with vivid colors on Monday evening.
  • High-altitude ice clouds caused the vibrant scattering of sunlight.
  • The phenomenon is attributed to cirrus clouds originating from a southern jet stream.
  • Light rain and continued cloud cover are possible on Tuesday.
  • Temperatures are expected to rise later in the week.

Israel experienced a spectacular sunset on Monday evening, with skies displaying intense shades of red, blue, yellow, and other colors. The phenomenon was visible across the country, including in the Gush Dan region and Tel Aviv.

The Israel Meteorological Service explained that the vibrant colors were caused by high-altitude "cirrus" clouds, also known as "feather clouds." These clouds originate from a jet stream blowing from the south at an altitude of approximately 10 kilometers. Due to the extreme height, these clouds are composed of ice particles.

During sunset, sunlight strikes these ice particles, causing the light to scatter and produce the breathtaking display. The meteorological service anticipates that similar high and mid-level clouds will cover the skies on Tuesday, with a possibility of light rain or drizzle. Temperatures are expected to rise slightly on Wednesday, with a continued warming trend predicted for Thursday.
