Four Arab workers were arrested on Sunday on suspicion of involvement in burglaries at four homes in the settlement of Meitzad, located in the Gush Etzion region, during the first night of the Sukkot holiday. According to reports, over 200,000 shekels in cash, along with jewelry, silverware, and electronics, were stolen from the residences. Five additional workers were detained for questioning.

The suspects had been employed in development and construction work within the settlement, reportedly giving them intimate knowledge of the area, including security camera placements, entry points, and guard procedures. This familiarity may have enabled them to meticulously plan the burglaries and evade detection. Investigators believe there was a clear connection between the targeted homes and the work performed by a development contractor in Meitzad. One of the burglarized homes belonged to the contractor's employer, another to a resident who had received a quote from him, and others were linked to the contractor's work, the site manager, and the site security guard.

Further details suggest that maintenance work conducted at a location in the settlement about a month and a half prior may have been used by the perpetrators to gain entry. The workers' knowledge of the terrain allowed them to identify access points, camera locations, and the settlement's layout. Suspicion was also raised when one of the workers inquired about the family's holiday plans, asking if they would be home or away, suggesting prior planning to ensure the house would be empty.

Following the incident, settlement officials decided to refine procedures for admitting workers and strengthen security vulnerabilities. However, Arab workers will not be broadly banned from working in the settlement. Meitzad, a Haredi settlement in Gush Etzion, has been involved in security incidents previously, including violent confrontations in August when Haredi hikers mistakenly entered a nearby Palestinian village and were attacked with stones.
