Swarovski, the American cap brand ’47, and MLB have reworked one of New York’s most recognizable symbols into a luxury fashion item. The new New York Yankees cap costs $150 and replaces the usual sports look with a soft pastel design and a crystal-covered NY logo.
The logo is set with more than 100 transparent Swarovski crystals in baguette and round cuts, giving the cap the appearance of wearable jewelry rather than ordinary team merchandise. The piece is part of Swarovski Creators Lab, the company’s collaboration platform, and is tied to celebrations marking 130 years of the Austrian crystal house.
The cap is based on ’47’s Clean Up model, one of the brand’s best-known and best-selling styles. It is made of 100 percent twill cotton and keeps the familiar features of a classic baseball cap, including a soft fit, curved brim, and adjustable back strap, while adding a much more noticeable, premium finish. Swarovski says it is a limited-edition release.
The collection comes in four colors, light pink, dark blue, light blue, and a pale marshmallow shade. The softer palette is meant to balance the sparkling crystals and make the cap suitable not only for sportswear, but also for streetwear and more polished outfits. The article also notes the historical roots of the NY logo, which is said to date back to 1877 in a New York Police Department honor medal design by Louis Tiffany, and was adopted by the Yankees in 1909.
