Oman said it has coordinated with the International Maritime Organization to open a temporary maritime corridor for vessels seeking to transit the Strait of Hormuz. The announcement was reported by the country's official news agency.
According to the report, ships that want to use the corridor must coordinate their passage with the IMO, following coordinates published by the organization and by Omani authorities. Oman said the move is intended to keep navigation through the strategic waterway open under international law and the law of the sea.
The corridor is temporary, and Oman said it will not impose transit fees on vessels using it.
