Billy, a one-year-old British Shorthair cat, has become an internet sensation after correctly predicting the results of all 19 World Cup matches that did not end in a draw. His owners, Linka Lynn and Mark Kelly from Ireland, say the response has been overwhelmingly positive and that Billy’s popularity keeps growing.
Since the tournament began, Lynn has held up flags from the two teams playing each match, and Billy has chosen the winner by placing a paw on one of them. So far, he has not missed a single prediction, including Argentina’s win over Austria. Lynn said that despite the fame, Billy remains “a normal cat,” but she is happy that he gives people confidence and inspiration.
The couple adopted Billy when he was three months old and soon noticed his intelligence and unusual communication abilities. They first tried simple preference quizzes, and when the World Cup started, they decided to test his guessing skills. Billy, also known as “Billy Heartnose” because of his distinctive markings, shares his picks on Instagram, where he receives supportive comments.
Lynn said expectations for Billy keep rising as the tournament progresses, but she believes he can handle the pressure. She added that he has been getting more treats lately, which she sees as a sign that he is enjoying his new status. The viral phenomenon continues to spread widely online.
