Maccabi Tel Aviv won its 58th Israeli championship on Tuesday night, defeating Hapoel Tel Aviv 83-79 to close the final series 3-1. The title ended Loni Walker’s first season in yellow with a championship, although he did not play at all in the final series.
After the game, Walker said he was “very excited for my brothers and for the whole organization.” He added that the team “grew from every difficulty,” stayed professional and kept pushing, saying the championship “was ours from the beginning to the end.” He also praised everyone involved, on the court and in the office, and said, “We are the champions.”
When asked directly whether he would remain with the club next season, Walker pointed to his heart and replied, “Maccabi is here with me.” He also said that the team would come back stronger next year, suggesting a possible return.
The interview followed Maccabi Tel Aviv’s latest league title and served as the clearest hint yet about Walker’s future with the club.
