Three years into the "Swords of Iron" war, Israel's Ministry of Defense has released an updated casualty count, reporting 1,318 fallen members of its security forces since October 7, 2023. This figure represents a significant increase in the bereaved families, with over 7,150 individuals now part of the "family of sorrow." Among them are 2,143 bereaved parents, 355 widows, 880 orphans, and 3,772 bereaved siblings.

Over the past year alone, 166 security personnel have been killed. This includes members of the Israel Defense Forces (IDF), Israel Police, Shin Bet, Israel Prison Service, firefighting and rescue services, local security officers (Rabbashatzim), and community security teams. These individuals fell in combat across various fronts, including the Gaza Strip, southern and northern Israel, Lebanon, and Judea and Samaria.

The report also notes that approximately 1,000 civilians have been killed. This number is separate from the security forces casualties and does not include civilians murdered in the October 7th Hamas attack in the Gaza envelope, or those killed by Hamas fire into Israel, Hezbollah rockets, Iranian projectiles, or attacks in Judea and Samaria. The vast majority of civilian deaths occurred during the Hamas infiltration of the Gaza envelope on Simchat Torah, 5784.
