Interior Minister Deri Attributes Dubai Plane Incident to Divine Intervention

Interior Minister Aryeh Deri described a recent incident aboard a plane in Dubai, where the aircraft reportedly plummeted in altitude before regaining control, as a "very great miracle." Speaking at a Sukkot gathering hosted by his party, Shas, Deri referred to the event as a "miracle of Sukkot 5787" (2026), emphasizing that the plane dropped to a "crazy altitude" within seconds before pilots managed to regain control.

Deri expressed gratitude to God for the safe outcome, stating, "Imagine what would have happened if, God forbid, this incident had ended differently. It is a very great miracle, and for that, we must thank God."

While acknowledging the need for a thorough investigation into the causes of the incident, Deri cautioned against premature conclusions. He stated, "At the same time, we must thoroughly investigate what caused the incident. There is no certainty at the moment, and I do not want to preempt the investigation, but we know there are attempts from several directions to harm Israel before the elections."

He urged increased prayer during this period, quoting scripture, "If the Lord does not guard the city, the watchman guards in vain." Deri concluded by linking the plane incident to the importance of Torah study and prayer, asserting, "Whoever wants to understand what the Torah and prayers do for the people of Israel should look at what happened here. There are situations where human strength runs out, and then divine providence is seen firsthand."
