Shas Chairman Deri Calls Flydubai Incident a Miracle

Shas party chairman Aryeh Deri described the dramatic rescue of passengers on a Flydubai flight en route to Israel as a "Sukkot miracle of 5787" (2026). Speaking at a Shas sukkah, Deri attributed the survival of those aboard to divine intervention, stating, "It is simply a Sukkot miracle of 5787, indescribable miracles." He recounted that the plane plunged to a terrifying altitude within seconds before pilots regained control.

While expressing gratitude to God, Deri also called for a thorough investigation into the incident's causes, cautioning against premature conclusions. "We need to check carefully what caused the event. There are no certainties right now, and I don't want to preempt the investigation," he stated.

Deri also addressed perceived threats against Israel ahead of elections, suggesting various entities are attempting to harm the country. "We know there are attempts from several directions to harm Israel before the elections. This is a dangerous time that requires many prayers to God," he said, quoting a biblical verse about divine protection. He concluded by emphasizing the power of Torah study and prayer, citing the plane incident as proof that divine providence is evident when human capabilities are exhausted.
