Israeli Documentary 'NezA' Tops Italian Box Office, Surpassing Marvel Hit

The Israeli documentary 'NezA,' directed by Yuval Avraham and Rachel Shor, has achieved significant success in Italy, topping the box office charts and outperforming the re-release of Marvel's 'Avengers: Endgame.' The film, which has not yet been released in Israel, earned approximately 1.1 million euros in its first two days of wide release in Italy, compared to 356,000 euros for the Marvel film. Initial distribution plans in Italy were for only three days, but strong audience response and advance ticket sales led to an extension of its theatrical run.

'NezA' premiered earlier this week in the United States and is set to be released in cinemas in over 50 countries. The film, which was involved in its production by The Guardian, will be available for free viewing on the British newspaper's website in November. The directors have reportedly offered the film to Israeli cinemas free of charge, but there is no information yet on its release in Israel.

The documentary features testimonies from 24 Israeli soldiers and officers discussing the war in Gaza. The filmmakers describe the events as 'genocide' and offer sharp criticism of the Israel Defense Forces (IDF) and the Israeli government. The identities of the interviewees are concealed, their voices altered, and interviews were filmed at night in near-total darkness on rooftops in Tel Aviv. Some interviewees compare IDF actions to the Holocaust and historical processes of dehumanization.
