Flydubai Plane Lands in Saudi Arabia After Suspected Pilot Attempted Crash
Medical teams in Israel are preparing to receive passengers from a Flydubai flight that experienced an "unusual incident" en route from Dubai to Israel, forcing the plane to land in Saudi Arabia. While the full circumstances are still under investigation, Israeli security officials reportedly suspect one of the pilots may have attempted to crash the aircraft, with the other pilot, along with crew members and passengers, intervening to regain control.
In response to the incident, Schneider Children's Medical Center has opened a support hotline for children and families who were on the flight, as well as for those who have been distressed by the news. The hotline offers emotional support and guidance for dealing with the potential psychological impact of such traumatic events.
Schneider's psychological services director, Dani Lotan, advised that fear can persist even in a safe environment. He emphasized the importance of acknowledging a child's feelings, providing age-appropriate explanations, and gradually helping them return to their routine.
According to Schneider's guidelines, common reactions following a stressful event can include crying, sleep disturbances, nightmares, clinginess, irritability, and physical complaints like stomachaches or headaches. While these are often natural and temporary responses, Lotan stressed the need for continued attentiveness, as reactions may surface later. He recommended allowing children to talk about their experience without pressure, limiting exposure to frightening media, and seeking professional help if distress is prolonged or significantly impacts daily functioning.
