Chief Rabbi Urges President Herzog to Foster National Unity Amidst Election Tensions

During a festive visit to the Sukkah of Israel's Chief Rabbi, Rabbi Kalman Meir Bar, the President of the Chief Rabbinate Council called on Israeli President Isaac Herzog to lead a unifying and value-driven path amidst the current election season and public divisions. Rabbi Bar emphasized the importance of peace among "God's children."

The meeting, held during the charged election period, focused on the need to halt divisive discourse and promote unity within the Israeli people. Rabbi Bar directly addressed President Herzog, urging him to be a prominent public voice for unity during this sensitive time. "In days when swords are being sharpened, I ask that the President be the great voice and speaker for unity. That we see the good, speak of the positive, and remember we are all children of one Father," he stated.

Rabbi Bar highlighted that even with differing opinions and worldviews, the fundamental framework of the nation remains strong, akin to a family. He cited the recent High Holy Days, when over two million religious and secular citizens visited the Western Wall, as an example of this underlying unity. He warned that negative campaigning harms the fabric of shared life and stressed the need to focus on the positive and unifying aspects of Israeli society.

This meeting follows a series of holiday visits by President Herzog. The gathering in the Chief Rabbi's Sukkah is part of the President's ongoing efforts to engage with various segments of society during the Sukkot holiday.
