Palestinian Writers Union Honors Author Ahmed Saleh Jarbouni

The General Union of Palestinian Writers - Al-Karmel 48 held a ceremony on Monday, September 28, 2026, to honor its member, author Ahmed Saleh Jarbouni, and to launch his new book, "Land Day - We Are on the Covenant." The event took place at Jarbouni's home in Arraba and was attended by a large gathering of fellow union members, acquaintances, friends, writers, intellectuals, and social figures.

The ceremony opened with poet Dr. Maysaa Al-Sih, who praised Jarbouni's commitment to writing and his focus on social and political issues, as well as preserving memory. She highlighted the importance of his new book and his efforts in documenting significant heritage events.

Zaher Boulos, Deputy Secretary-General of the Union, delivered a speech congratulating Jarbouni on his new release and emphasizing the need to remind younger generations of the Palestinian people's struggle. He also urged political leaders with writing skills to focus on documentation and intellectual discourse.

Former Union Secretary-General, lawyer Saeed Naffa, discussed Jarbouni's various works and their role in combating violence, fragmentation, and sectarian divisions allegedly perpetuated by authorities. He called for societal unity and the preservation of the Palestinian identity, noting the gaps in the Palestinian narrative compared to a unified Israeli narrative, which he attributed to the Nakba and displacement.

Former Mayor of Arraba, Omar Waked Nassar, spoke about the policies of constriction and land confiscation targeting Arab towns, aiming to stifle the Arab community and encourage emigration. He contrasted the resources of the Misgav settlements with those of Arab towns, stressing the importance of struggling for rights and preserving land, heritage, and identity.

Union member and writer Mohammed Assaad Kanaaneh underscored the responsibility of committed writers in documenting history and heritage to maintain identity and a true narrative. He noted that Jarbouni's experience as a political and national figure who lived through events he writes about adds significant weight to his work.

Union Secretary-General Mustafa Abdelfattah concluded by praising the union's leading role in the cultural scene and its efforts in preserving heritage, literature, and identity. He celebrated Jarbouni as a figure who has significantly impacted Palestinian heritage and literature, accurately depicting rural society during dark times and shedding light on customs and traditions. He affirmed Arraba's role as a bastion of national identity and culture and congratulated the town on Jarbouni's contributions.

The event concluded with the presentation of the Union's shield to Jarbouni, followed by his thanks to the Union and attendees for their support.
