New BMW 3 Series Unveiled, Retaining Gasoline Engines Amidst Electrification

BMW has revealed the latest iteration of its iconic 3 Series sedan, codenamed G50, which continues to offer gasoline powertrains alongside the brand's push towards electrification. The new model sees a moderate increase in dimensions compared to its predecessor, measuring 4.76 meters long, 1.85 meters wide, and 1.45 meters high, with a wheelbase of 2.86 meters. The trunk capacity is slightly reduced to 450 liters.

The interior adopts BMW's modern design language, featuring a large 17.9-inch central infotainment screen and a panoramic digital display stretching across the dashboard. An augmented reality head-up display and a new steering wheel design are also included. The new 3 Series is expected to arrive in Israel in the first quarter of 2027.

Initially, the new 3 Series will be available with three micro-hybrid gasoline engine options. The entry-level 318 model features a 2.0-liter turbo engine producing 156 horsepower, capable of reaching 100 km/h in 9.5 seconds. The 320 model uses a similar 2.0-liter engine but delivers 211 horsepower, achieving 0-100 km/h in 7.4 seconds. Both 2.0-liter variants offer a fuel economy of 13.3 km per liter.

Topping the initial lineup is the M350 xDrive, equipped with a 3.0-liter inline-six engine assisted by a 48-volt mild-hybrid system. This powertrain generates 443 horsepower and 59.1 kgm of torque, sent to all wheels via an 8-speed automatic transmission. It accelerates from 0-100 km/h in 4.1 seconds, with a top speed limited to 250 km/h and a fuel economy of 12.2 km per liter. This performance variant includes intelligent all-wheel drive and a 'Drift Moment' mode that can send 100% of power to the rear axle, with an over-the-air update planned for this feature next year. The M350 xDrive is 69 horsepower stronger and 0.3 seconds quicker to 100 km/h than the outgoing M340 model.

Future plans include plug-in hybrid versions, while a fully electric M3 with four electric motors and substantial power output is also under consideration.
