Yair Golan Evacuated From Public Event Amid Security Concerns

Yair Golan, chairman of the Democrats party, was secretly evacuated from a public event in Beersheba last Wednesday due to concerns over a potentially threatening gathering. His security team monitored social media and messaging apps, identifying a crowd that posed a risk, prompting them to activate an escape plan. Golan was then moved through a private event without public knowledge to ensure his safety.

Golan currently travels with unarmed security personnel. His party, along with others, regularly receives threatening messages online, some of which have been submitted to the High Court of Justice. Examples include threats like "May you go without a guard," "Execution for treason," and "Only a hangman's noose."

In response to these threats, Shin Bet Director David Zini has approved enhanced security measures for party leaders. Private security firms will be permitted to carry weapons even without concrete intelligence, and will coordinate closely with the Shin Bet's security division. Regular threat assessments will also be conducted for each party leader.

However, some within the "Change Bloc" political faction are questioning whether political pressure influenced the Shin Bet's decision. They argue these measures, which differ from previous recommendations, could hinder their ability to hold large rallies and public events in the current political climate, potentially impacting the upcoming elections.
