Jewish Power Party Demands Criminal Prosecution of Arab MK Sami Abed Al-Rahman
The far-right Otzma Yehudit party has formally requested that Attorney General Gali Baharav-Miara and State Prosecutor Amit Aisman initiate criminal proceedings against Member of Knesset (MK) Sami Abed Al-Rahman.
This demand follows the party's successful petition to disqualify Abed Al-Rahman and his Balad party from running in the upcoming Knesset elections. Otzma Yehudit alleges that Abed Al-Rahman incited terrorism and violence, and expressed solidarity with a terror organization and its actions.
Minister of National Security Itamar Ben-Gvir, a leader of Otzma Yehudit, stated, "Anyone who praises the Hamas massacre and identifies with terrorists should not only be disqualified, he should be investigated and brought to justice. It is time for the Attorney General to stop dragging her feet and do her job. Abed Al-Rahman, out to Syria."
Otzma Yehudit had previously submitted a request to disqualify Abed Al-Rahman and his party, the Joint List, from competing in the 26th Knesset elections. The Central Elections Committee approved this request, but it still requires final confirmation from the Supreme Court justices.
