Israel Railways Chairman Ousted Over Alleged Resume Fraud

The Director of the Government Companies Authority, Yaakov Kahlon, has announced the immediate termination of Idan David's tenure as a director at Israel Railways Ltd. The decision stems from alleged misrepresentations and falsified documents submitted by David during his candidacy for chairman of the board.

In a dramatic letter, Kahlon detailed a series of failures and sharp criticisms regarding David's conduct. "There is no escape from the conclusion that you provided details in the questionnaire that were not 'full, correct, and true' as you declared, and even provided the committee, to support the details provided in the questionnaire, documents that raise serious doubt regarding their authenticity, given that those who signed them deny any connection to them," Kahlon wrote.

Kahlon further attacked David's conduct, stating that his continued service harms the public interest. "In the Authority's view, your conduct as stated is inconsistent with the honesty and integrity required of someone serving as a director in a government company. In these circumstances, your continued tenure as a director is not in line with the company's and the public interest's benefit, and may even harm the board's ability to fulfill its role properly and effectively."

The dismissal follows an investigation that uncovered serious doubts about the information and credentials David provided. These included significant discrepancies in reported revenue and income from companies he owned or managed, as well as claims from individuals, including an accountant and CEO, that documents presented in their names were forged.

Consequently, the Appointments Committee canceled David's approval for the chairman position, and the Government Companies Authority declared the immediate end of his directorship, asserting his conduct was incompatible with the integrity required of a public company official.
