Netanyahu Sues Media Outlets Over Hamas Attack Warning Reports
Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu has filed a defamation lawsuit against several Israeli newspapers, media outlets, and journalists. The suit stems from reports alleging that Netanyahu received warnings from the United Arab Emirates and Egypt about an impending Hamas attack prior to October 7th. Netanyahu's legal team asserts these claims are "false fabrications."
The lawsuit targets "Haaretz" and "Yedioth Ahronoth" newspapers, Channel 12 news, and the Ynet news website. Also named as defendants are journalists Shlomi Eldar and Ruti Yuval, who published the initial investigation in "Haaretz" detailing a conversation between UAE President Mohammed bin Zayed and Netanyahu. Additional journalists included in the suit are Uri Misgav, Nadav Eyal, Barak Ravid, and Attila Somfalvi.
The Likud party, in a statement, declared, "The Emirates denied it, the Egyptians denied it, this is an absolute lie." The party further alleged that these "lies" are being disseminated now, on the eve of elections, by "political rivals and hostile foreign elements" aiming to oust Netanyahu's right-wing government and install a left-wing government that would establish a Palestinian state.
