Acclaimed Israeli Author and Poet Rachel Gil Dies at 75
Israeli author, poet, and editor Rachel Gil passed away on September 28 at the age of 75. Born in Tel Aviv in 1951, Gil initially pursued a career in construction engineering after graduating from the Technion. She worked and taught in the field before transitioning to literature and editing.
Gil began publishing her poetry in literary journals in the 1980s. Her literary achievements include the 1990 Ron Adler Poetry Prize. Her published works include the short story collection "Nothing Happened," the poetry collection "Jackals of Fear," and the novels "The Sitting Woman," "A Stretch of the Way," "Landscape with a Tall Woman," and "This is How I Wanted You."
Her play "Foreign Worker" was awarded a prize by the Beit Lessin Theater and was staged there in 2010. Rachel Gil was married to literary critic and writer Professor Avraham Balaban.
