Soldier Suspected in Fatal Hit-and-Run Released to House Arrest
A 20-year-old soldier suspected of negligently causing the death of triathlete Tal Gilboa has been released to his home. The investigation revealed that the suspect, a resident of the Golan Heights, was driving under the influence of alcohol when he struck and killed Gilboa, who was cycling at the time. The soldier's attorney, Kobi Tal, stated that his client is a "salt of the earth" soldier who stopped to help the cyclist and called emergency services.
Gilboa, 47, a resident of Kibbutz Kfar Haruv in the southern Golan Heights, died on Saturday near the Magshimim Junction while riding his bicycle. The investigation into the circumstances of the accident is ongoing.
