Ben-Gvir Seeks Defense Ministry to Pursue Radical Policies
Itamar Ben-Gvir, leader of the Otzma Yehudit party and current Minister of National Security, has declared his intention to become Israel's next Minister of Defense. In an interview with Kan Reshet Bet radio, Ben-Gvir outlined radical security policy changes he plans to implement if appointed to the defense portfolio. He stated his goal to "ensure the cremation of Sinwar's body and the bodies of the terrorists from October 7th." Ben-Gvir also pledged to disarm the Palestinian Authority, arrest senior Palestinian officials supporting terrorism, and encourage the voluntary emigration of Arabs from Gaza, Judea, and Samaria.
Earlier, Ben-Gvir and MK Tali Gottlieb, who joined Otzma Yehudit from Likud, had announced they would demand the defense and justice ministries respectively for the next government. However, the Likud party has reportedly stated it does not intend to cede these "key portfolios" to coalition partners, indicating a potential conflict over Ben-Gvir's aspirations.
