Ben Gvir Demands Defense Ministry, Vows to Burn Sinwar's Body

Otzma Yehudit party leader and Minister Itamar Ben-Gvir reiterated his demand to receive the Defense Ministry portfolio in the next government, stating his intention to advance a significant shift in security policy. In a radio interview on Tuesday, Ben-Gvir declared, "After I receive the Defense Ministry, I will ensure the burning of Sinwar's body and the bodies of the October 7th terrorists. As Defense Minister, I will bring about a fundamental change in perception."

Ben-Gvir's demand follows a presentation last week with MK Tali Gottlieb outlining their requirements for the formation of the next government. Ben-Gvir sought the Defense Ministry for himself, while Gottlieb requested the Justice Ministry. The minister also detailed key aspects of his proposed security plan, including encouraging voluntary emigration from Gaza and Judea and Samaria, disarming the Palestinian Authority, and arresting senior officials he claims support terrorism.

Following these demands, Likud party officials quickly clarified that they have no intention of transferring the Defense and Justice ministries to coalition partners. Sources familiar with the matter indicated that these are considered "core portfolios" of the ruling party, and there is no plan to meet the demands presented by Ben-Gvir and Gottlieb.
