Otzma Yehudit Party Seeks to Submit New Evidence Against Balad Chairman Sami Abu Shehadeh

The Otzma Yehudit party is reportedly planning to request permission to submit new evidence to Israel's Supreme Court concerning the disqualification of Balad party chairman Sami Abu Shehadeh. The evidence is a video from December 2023, not yet widely circulated in Israel, featuring an interview with Abu Shehadeh on Qatar's Al-Araby channel. In the interview, Abu Shehadeh praised the resistance in Gaza, calling their steadfastness "almost legendary" and unparalleled in military history.

He further questioned how the "racist Israeli society" copes with the ongoing war, the government's failure to provide convincing answers regarding hostages and military objectives, and the "steadfastness of the resistance in Gaza." Abu Shehadeh also cited a Haaretz article suggesting the resistance surprised Israel not only in its attack but also in its defense capabilities and its ability to maintain leadership and connection with fighters, describing this defense system as "almost legendary."

The new material is intended for submission during the Supreme Court hearing on Abu Shehadeh's disqualification. However, legally, this is an unusual step. The process at the Central Elections Committee has already concluded, and the Supreme Court hearing is scheduled. Therefore, the request to present new evidence at this stage is expected to face legal challenges. The video could become central to the court's discussion if its submission is approved.
