Worker Deaths Mount: 55 Fatalities Recorded in Israel Since Year's Start

Fifty-five workers have died and 479 others have been injured in workplace accidents across Israel since the beginning of 2026, according to data from the "Adva Ha'oved" association. The figures highlight a persistent problem, particularly within the construction sector.

The latest fatality was Hisham Ibrahim Abu Shalzam, a young man from Ar'arat Al-Naqab, who died on Monday from severe injuries sustained in a construction site accident in Kiryat Ekron. Emergency medical services received a report of the injured worker at 12:23 PM. Upon arrival, paramedics found Abu Shalzam unconscious, without a pulse or breathing, and suffering from critical injuries.

Despite extensive resuscitation efforts and life-saving treatment, he was transported in critical condition to Kaplan Hospital in Rehovot, where he was later pronounced dead. Police have launched an investigation into the circumstances of the incident, and the Ministry of Economy, responsible for industry, trade, and labor, has been notified as per protocol.
