Violent Riots Erupt During Rabbi Nachman Celebration in Jerusalem, Five Arrested
Large police forces were deployed to central Jerusalem late last night following violent disturbances during a celebration of Rabbi Nachman of Breslov's yahrzeit (anniversary of death). Dozens of participants blocked the light rail, obstructed private vehicles, and threw stones and objects at police officers. Five suspects were arrested on suspicion of rioting and violence.
The incident began around 3:00 AM near Chaim Bar Lev and Sachs streets, where a confrontation erupted between attendees of the celebration and police. The event commander ordered the dispersal of the gathering, but participants continued their clashes in adjacent streets.
Jerusalem District Police, Border Police, and special patrol units worked to restore order, using a water cannon and stun grenades. During the operation, five suspects were apprehended for their alleged involvement in the disturbances and violent acts against civilians and police.
Concurrently, reports emerged of violence within the celebration venue itself. Following this, additional suspects were arrested and taken for questioning.
