Jerusalem Clashes Erupt During Rabbi Nachman Celebration
Severe disturbances and confrontations with police broke out in Jerusalem near the annual celebration of Rabbi Nachman of Breslov and the Simchat Beit HaShoeva hosted by Rabbi Shalom Arush. Five suspects were arrested during the unrest.
Police deployed water cannons and stun grenades in an effort to disperse the rioters. The light rail service in the city was also temporarily blocked due to the disturbances.
The events occurred during the period leading up to the anniversary of Rabbi Nachman's passing and the Sukkot holiday festivities, which draw many Hasidic followers to the city annually.
