Tel Aviv Ranks 34th Globally in New City Index
New York City has been named the world's leading city for 2026, according to the Global Cities Index by research firm Oxford Economics. Tel Aviv secured the 34th position globally, outperforming cities like Vienna, San Diego, and Seoul with an overall score of 81.2 out of 100. The index evaluated 1,000 cities across five categories: economy, human capital, quality of life, environment, and governance. Tel Aviv received strong scores in economy and human capital but a lower score in governance.
Other Israeli cities included in the ranking were Haifa at 144th place and Jerusalem at 179th place. New York's top ranking was attributed to its economic strength and robust job market. London and Paris followed New York in the rankings, with the top ten also featuring Seattle, San Francisco, Dublin, Boston, San Jose, Tokyo, and Zurich.
The report's authors noted that leading cities excel not only in economic power but also in their ability to attract skilled talent, quality of life, cultural offerings, infrastructure, environmental standards, and governmental institutions.
