NBA Writer Suggests Deni Avdija as Ideal Second Star Alongside Luka Dončić
NBA journalist Nacho Losilla of DAZN has proposed an ideal starting lineup for the Los Angeles Lakers centered around Luka Dončić, prominently featuring Israeli player Deni Avdija as the second star. Losilla described Avdija as a player with exceptional physicality, transition playmaking ability, size, and foul-drawing skills, suggesting that a Dončić-Avdija pairing would be incredibly disruptive to opponents.
Losilla elaborated on their potential synergy, highlighting Avdija's defensive prowess and versatility in pick-and-roll situations, where either player could initiate the offense. He also noted that Avdija could alleviate some of Dončić's playmaking burden, allowing Dončić to focus more on scoring.
"There are very few players who fit so well alongside Luka Dončić right now," Losilla stated on his podcast, adding that while a real-life pairing is unlikely due to logistical complexities, Avdija is currently the most suitable star player to complement Dončić. Losilla also referred to Avdija as "Mini Giannis."
Avdija is coming off a career-best season with the Portland Trail Blazers, where he was a key player in their playoff run. The Trail Blazers are set to begin their 2026-27 NBA season on October 22nd against the Phoenix Suns.
