NBA Analyst Believes Deni Avdija Could Reach Top 10 Player Status

Mike Richman, a writer for the Portland Trail Blazers and host of the 'Locked on Blazers' podcast, has identified Israeli forward Deni Avdija as the player on the team with the highest potential for a significant leap in status this season. Richman categorized NBA players into tiers, from bench players to superstars, and currently considers Avdija an All-Star.

Richman believes Avdija's next step could be ascending to the level of a "star" player, positioned above the typical All-Star but not yet in the elite tier of the league's biggest superstars. He explained that acquiring top-tier talent is the most impactful move in the NBA, even more so than depth, for teams aiming for championship contention. While Richman also considered Scottie Henderson and Donovan Clingan for potential advancement, he ultimately focused on Avdija, stating that his elevation from All-Star to star would have the most significant impact on the Trail Blazers' upcoming season.

Richman envisions Avdija consistently performing in the range of the 7th to 18th best player in the league, acknowledging that specific rankings can fluctuate. He compared this potential trajectory to that of Jason Tatum in the years before his injury, when Tatum was consistently a top-10 player and frequently in the conversation for the top five. Richman stressed that while reaching this level is challenging, it is not entirely out of the realm of possibility for Avdija.

He concluded by reiterating his choice, emphasizing that if only one player on the team were to elevate their game significantly, Avdija's advancement would be the most impactful for the Trail Blazers.
