A severe family tragedy struck Jerusalem over Shabbat, when Hana Shprinza Katzenbogen died at age 24 during Parashat Chukat. She was the seventh child in the family to die young, following a long series of losses at the family home on Hahomah HaShlishit Street.
Her father, Rabbi Pinchas Leibush Halevi Katzenbogen, died in 2008 at age 46, leaving 17 young orphans. Since then, the family has endured repeated bereavements, including the deaths of her brother Aharon Shlomo in 2015 and her brother Mordechai Yehoshua in 2018, when he died of cardiac arrest at 26. The article describes Hana Shprinza as someone who suffered for years, accepted her pain quietly, and remained cheerful, dignified, and faithful despite severe illness.
She was the granddaughter of Rabbi Chaim Katzenbogen, head of the Torah VeYirah institutions, and of Rabbi Moshe Noach Friedman of Batei Netin in Jerusalem. She died on Saturday, 5 Tammuz 5786, and was buried on Motzaei Shabbat at Mount of Olives, beside other family members.
The family is sitting shiva at her mother Esther's home at 7A Hahomah HaShlishit Street in Jerusalem. Visiting hours are 10:00 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. and 5:00 p.m. to 10:00 p.m.
