Mother of Seven Dies at 40 in Jerusalem, Leaving Family in Financial Crisis
Jerusalem mourns the passing of Yael Shitrit, a 40-year-old resident of the Beit Vagan neighborhood, who died after enduring a year and a half of severe illness. Her husband, Rabbi Netanel Shitrit, is a dedicated Torah scholar who studies intensively each day. Yael worked as a kindergarten assistant to support the family, ensuring her husband could focus on his studies without financial worries.
Her health deteriorated rapidly, and she was released home just one day before her death. Despite feeling unwell, she insisted on dressing modestly before allowing emergency responders to take her to the hospital. Yael left behind seven young children, including an 18-year-old son studying in yeshiva and an eight-year-old son, as well as five daughters. She also left personal letters to her daughters, offering life guidance and encouragement in faith and modesty.
During the emotional funeral procession, Rabbi Shitrit expressed his anguish over being left alone to care for their young children. The community was deeply moved, especially when the eight-year-old recited the mourner's Kaddish with tears. Local charity organizations warn that the family now faces a severe financial crisis due to expensive medical treatments and necessary home repairs. They call on the public to provide urgent support to help the widower and his seven orphans survive and rebuild their lives.
