Jerusalem Rabbi Shlomo Winzfeld Dies Suddenly, Leaving Family in Financial Hardship
The neighborhood of Har Nof in Jerusalem mourned the sudden passing of Rabbi Shlomo Winzfeld after a brief illness. His funeral took place Saturday night in the neighborhood, attended by friends, neighbors, and family, and concluded at Har HaMenuchot cemetery where he was buried. Rabbi Winzfeld, a resident of Shaulzon Street, was known for his humility, kindness, and dedication to Torah study, spending his life quietly and diligently in the study hall with the support of his wife.
Despite running their home as a place for scholars for many years, in recent times the family lived in significant poverty and hardship, which remained largely unknown to the outside world. Following his illness and death, the extent of the family's difficulties became clear. He left behind a widow and four unmarried children, along with substantial debts accumulated over the years from previous children’s marriages that he was unable to repay.
Currently, charity organizations are working to establish a dedicated fund to support the family. The fund aims to cover the education of the four children, repay outstanding debts, and provide ongoing assistance to maintain the household without any income. Community members emphasize that the family never sought help before, and public support now represents their only real chance to overcome this crisis.
