Leading Torah Sages Unite to Support Family of Late Yael Shitrit and Her Seven Orphans
The week of mourning for the late Yael Shitrit, who endured severe suffering for over a year and a half before passing away, has concluded. She left behind seven young orphans deeply affected by her loss. The family, residing in Jerusalem, is led by a devoted Torah scholar known for his diligence and respected by many prominent Torah leaders. Yael Shitrit was renowned for her righteousness and dedication to fulfilling God's will, values she instilled in her children.
Due to the family's dire physical and financial situation, an unprecedented and rare consensus has emerged among the greatest Torah authorities, who unanimously declared a communal obligation to support the family. They emphasized the importance of preventing any disgrace upon the Jewish people by ensuring this distinguished family receives adequate assistance.
In heartfelt appeals, Rabbi Yitzchak Cohen, the chief rabbi of Jerusalem's Shmuel Hanavi neighborhood, urged the public to help establish a fund to support the children's future, including their weddings and honorable upbringing. Rabbi Shlomo Amar, the Sephardic Chief Rabbi, called the donation a great mitzvah, blessing those who contribute. Rabbi David Yosef also encouraged everyone to participate in this significant mitzvah, highlighting the spiritual merit involved.
Additional calls came from Rabbi Shlomo Yehuda Bary, known as "The Infant," who prayed for blessings upon those who assist the family, and Rabbi Yigal Cohen, who emotionally appealed for open hearts and generosity to aid the seven orphans left after their mother's prolonged illness. The community is urged to provide urgent financial support to help sustain this revered family through their hardship.
