Israel National Football Team Cancels Comedian's Show After Humiliating Loss
Following a significant defeat, the Israel Football Association has canceled a planned stand-up comedy show for the national team featuring comedian Guy Hochman. The decision came after Israel's painful loss to Ireland on Sunday.
The one-sided loss, which occurred in Debrecen, prompted the association to call off the performance that was scheduled for Monday evening. Hochman expressed understanding, stating, "Which Israeli wants to see the national team laughing after such a performance? This is not the time for a good time, it's time to give them quiet." He added that the opportunity to perform for the team would come at the right time, after a proper victory.
Shlomi Barzel, head of the association's explanation department, explained the decision on air, citing optics. "There is a matter of appearance. A correct decision was made," he said, apologizing to Hochman. "At this stage, we would not want pictures of us laughing. It's too early and too fresh, it doesn't seem right to me. This is a decision by the team's leadership, which seems logical to me."
