Maccabi Tel Aviv Seeks Cyprus as Backup Venue for EuroLeague Home Games
Maccabi Tel Aviv basketball club has formally requested Cypriot authorities to consider hosting the team's EuroLeague home games on the island. Cypriot President Nikos Christodoulides has agreed to review the club's appeal. According to Cypriot media reports, Maccabi's management had previously discussed the matter with Christodoulides during the team's recent visit to Cyprus.
Potential venues being considered include the Spyros Kyprianou Sports Center in Limassol and the Tassos Papadopoulos, Eleftheria Arena in Nicosia. The Cyprus option is being viewed as a backup plan.
Maccabi emphasized that their primary goal remains to return their EuroLeague home games to Israel as soon as security conditions and tournament organizers permit. Last season, due to regional security concerns, Maccabi played its EuroLeague home games in Belgrade. The EuroLeague had previously officially approved alternative venues for Israeli clubs.
