Irish Player Accused of Racism Against Israeli Soccer Player
During a Nations League match where Ireland defeated Israel 3-0, Irish player Jason Molumby allegedly called Israeli player Eliel Peretz a "monkey." Israeli team players also claimed Molumby hurled curses throughout the game. Molumby reportedly complained to the referees about alleged racist chants directed at his teammate, Adam Idah. The officials dismissed these claims, meaning the incident will not be officially recorded in the referee's report, thus preventing disciplinary action against the Football Association of Ireland.
Molumby has a history of disciplinary issues. Earlier in the 2024-25 season, he received a five-match ban and a £16,000 fine for punching an opponent during a friendly match. In a separate incident last season, he was sent off twice within 18 minutes, leading his club, West Bromwich Albion, to appeal an expulsion, which was ultimately unsuccessful. Molumby previously played alongside Israeli players Biram Kayal and Tomer Hemed at Brighton early in his career.
