Israel Summons Spanish Envoy Over "River to the Sea" Remark

Israel's Foreign Ministry summoned the acting head of the Spanish Embassy in Tel Aviv for a reprimand following a statement by Spain's Minister of Youth, Sira Rego. Rego declared that the Spanish public supports a Palestinian state "from the river to the sea." The Foreign Ministry stated that Rego's remark "joins a systematic anti-Israel policy by the Spanish government and its leader, Pedro Sanchez."

The phrase "from the river to the sea," often used in reference to the area between the Jordan River and the Mediterranean Sea, is widely interpreted as a call for the elimination of the State of Israel. The Spanish government has not yet officially responded to the summons or the Foreign Ministry's statement.
