Israel Issues Heat Warnings Amid Severe Heatwave
The Israel Meteorological Service issued yellow warnings on Monday, September 28, for heavy heat stress expected across wide areas of the country, from north to south. The extreme heat is forecast to persist in some regions until late evening.
Specific warnings are in effect for the southern Judean Desert, Dead Sea, and Arava regions from 11:00 AM to 10:00 PM. The Beit She'an Valley, Kinneret Basin, Jordan Valley, and northern Judean Desert and Dead Sea areas will experience yellow warnings from 11:00 AM to 6:00 PM.
Authorities are cautioning about potential health risks, including dehydration and heatstroke, particularly for chronic patients, the elderly, and those receiving medical care. Difficult working conditions are also anticipated for individuals working outdoors without air conditioning. Additionally, the Meteorological Service warned of possible temporary disruptions to the electricity supply due to the high demand.
Recommendations for the public include staying in shaded, ventilated areas or air-conditioned buildings during peak heat hours, drinking plenty of water, wearing light-colored clothing and wide-brimmed hats when outdoors, and never leaving people or animals unattended in a hot vehicle. Drivers are advised to take breaks for refreshment, and family members and neighbors are encouraged to check on the well-being of elderly individuals.
