Tel Aviv Man Accused of 22 Supermarket Thefts, Stealing Thousands of Shekels in Goods

A 52-year-old Tel Aviv resident, identified as Albert Goncharov, faces charges for 22 separate supermarket and grocery store thefts, according to the Tel Aviv District Prosecution. The total value of the stolen goods is estimated to be in the tens of thousands of shekels. The indictment, filed with the Tel Aviv Magistrate's Court, details a pattern of premeditated theft rather than impulsive acts.

Investigators allege that Goncharov meticulously planned his heists. Before entering a store, he would reportedly study its layout and assess potential escape routes. Once inside, he would fill shopping carts or large bags with merchandise and quickly leave the premises. Some of the alleged thefts occurred at AM:PM convenience stores, with specific branches on Ibn Gabirol and Allenby streets mentioned as frequent targets, though thefts also took place in other city areas.

The stolen items were diverse, including 20 pairs of flip-flops valued at 1,428 shekels, substantial quantities of waffles costing 872 and 2,336 shekels, fresh produce, fish delicacies, and alcohol. The list also includes processed meats, numerous chocolate bars, chargers, and pet food.

The alleged crime spree concluded when officers from the Lev Tel Aviv police station apprehended Goncharov during an operation. He is now awaiting trial on the 22 counts of theft.
