Man Arrested on Suspicion of Assaulting Wife Over Her Attire
A 54-year-old man from Ganei Tikva, married for 34 years, was arrested on suspicion of headbutting his wife on the eve of the holiday. The alleged assault occurred after the suspect became angry because his wife was wearing shorts, which he reportedly stated was "contrary to his worldview." The incident took place on Friday.
The wife initially stayed home and did not immediately seek medical attention or report the incident to the police, as she did not want to do so during the holiday. After the holiday concluded, she went to a medical center, which then referred her to the emergency room at Sheba Medical Center. Hospital staff alerted the police, and an initial statement taken by an officer revealed an injury to the upper part of her nose.
During a court hearing to extend his detention, police requested the man remain in custody for further investigation. His defense attorney argued that the evidence gathered so far did not support the severity of the accusations, stating, "I think that in this incident, more is hidden than is revealed." The lawyer also noted that the couple spent the holiday together and that the wife only sought medical attention after the holiday ended. The defense requested the arrest be extended by only 24 hours to allow the court to review the investigation's progress.
Tel Aviv Magistrate's Court extended the suspect's arrest by 24 hours yesterday to allow the police to continue their investigation.
